The Crocodile Prize
The Crocodile Prize is the Highest most Prestigious award a
Papua New Guinean writer can attain. Named after Sir Vincent Eri’s trail-blazing novel, The
Crocodile, it aims to stimulate a writing culture as a form of recording and or
responding to the changes Papua New Guinea.
The Crocodile Prize is the brainchild of the PNG Attitude
blog run by Keith Jackson. Keith Jackson and Phil Fitzpatrick initiated the
Crocodile Prize competition last year.
I won the essay category and have had my essays exposed to a
wider audience. The recognition that comes with being a Croc Prize winner, has
also assisted in raising my profile.
I therefore encourage other young writers to engage in this
national conversation and to articulate the views of the masses, whether
through poetry, short stories or essays. This is a watershed moment in our
nation’s young history and it is only fitting that young voices capture this
moment in history in their writing.

Thanks Namorong for the advertisement on the competition. Also, congratulations on your successes so far and it's good you are sending a 'wake up' call to all young and vibrant intellectuals of our country to expose themselves in such organised activities.Cheers and keep up the good spirit.
