I CANT EXPRESS WITH MUCH GREATER ANXIETY THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE CALAMITY THAT HAS BEEN CREATED IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA OVER THE PAST DECADE. GREED HAS GOT US ON THE ROAD TO DISASTER.
Greedy Corporations, Governments and Individuals have, in the process of enriching themselves, sown the seeds of rebellion throughout this country. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT THAT ONE DAY; THIS ENTIRE NATION WILL BE A WARZONE.
How can a Government give 5 % to landowners of the PNG LNG landowners and expect them to be happy with that for the rest of the projects life. WE ALL KNOW THAT THE BOUGAINVILLEANS WANTED MEANINGFUL BENEFIT FROM THE PANGUNA MINE AND THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT OFFERED TOO LITTLE TOO LATE.
How can the Government give 99 year agriculture leases over customary land in without compensation of traditional landowners and expect them to remain peacefully ignorant. These evil leases do not involve payments of rent to customary landowners. Landowners also have their customary rights suspended. I don’t think 20 years from now, today’s babies will be happy. LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED ON BOUGAINVILLE. IT WAS A GENERATIONAL CHANGE THAT BROUGHT REVOLUTION.
How can the State allow for the destruction of the Fly River, Strickland River, Watut and the Bismarck Sea and expect the next generation to just accept the mess. HOW MANY MORE K10 BILLION COMPENSATION CLAIMS DO THEY WANT? [In case you’re wondering where I got the K10 billion from – that’s the amount of compensation Bougainvilleans wanted as compensation for destruction of their land and water resources]
The same conditions that triggered the Bougainville crisis and increased secessionist sentiments are present throughout the length and breadth of this nation.
Arguments over landowner participation and ownership plague resource projects just as they did on Bougainville. The National Government is still as greedy as it was before and during the Bougainville Crisis. Foreign Companies, blinded by greed and the pursuit of profits, still haven’t learnt any lessons from CRA’s bundlers on Bougainville.
In 1988, very few anticipated an all out war on the island, even though the writing was on the wall. Initially, the Namaliu Government sent in the police. Then they sent in the army without air support. An incompetent self-serving Government had no grasp of the situation and the carpet baggers at Waigani dragged their feet over the matter.
Corrupt Corporations, Politicians and Public servants still collude to undermine the interests of ordinary Papua New Guineans. The Australians created the Bougainville crisis by forcefully setting up a mine to support a new nation – Papua New Guinea. Bougainvilleans sacrificed their land and their lives for greedy Corporations and Government.
Those two agents of evil are now hell bent on destroying indigenous nations across this nation. Many tribes have lost their land rights under dubious land deals. Unique flora and fauna are about to be lost as land is cleared for large monoculture projects. Deep Sea Tailings and Undersea Mining threaten the lives of coastal communities and the environment.
What’s happening is genocide. It a systematic, government sanctioned destruction of thousands of ethnic groups and their livelihood, which is intimately attached with their environment.
Like Bougainville, the Government and Corporations don’t give a rat’s ass about the people. Once CRA and the PNG Government found themselves in a sinking ship, they bailed out of Bougainville and left thousands to die during the Blockade that ensued. What do they care about PNG if it goes to the dogs; they could always pack up and leave like they did on Bougainville.
